About MuhuratGuru
Where our dates come from, and what we will not claim.
What we do
MuhuratGuru works out auspicious dates and exact timing windows for the ceremonies that matter in a Hindu household — marriage, griha pravesh, naming a child, the first haircut, buying gold or a vehicle, starting a business, beginning a journey.
A muhurat is not the same everywhere. Sunrise, sunset and the exact moment a tithi or nakshatra changes are different in every city, so the same date can be auspicious in Delhi and not in Chennai. We calculate for your city, not for a national average.
How the calculation works
Every date is scored against 1,355 classical rules drawn from the standard muhurta literature — chiefly Muhurta Chintamani of Ram Daivagya, Dharma Sindhu, and Brihat Samhita of Varahamihira. Planetary positions come from high-precision astronomical data, the same data professional astronomers use.
The engine checks, for every candidate date:
- All five panchanga limbs — nakshatra, tithi, vara, yoga and karana — and the exact minute each one changes
- Planetary combustion, especially Shukra Asta and Guru Asta, which traditionally close the marriage season entirely
- Khar Maas, Adhik Maas, Chaturmas and eclipse periods
- Gandanta and other inauspicious junctions
- Rahu Kalam, Dur Muhurat and Gulika within the ceremony window
Most panchang sites give a date a single rating. We score the ceremony window itself — for a wedding, Godhuli Bela through to next sunrise — and show you exactly when each element changes inside it, because a date can be excellent at 10 PM and unsuitable by midnight.
What we will not do
We do not make deterministic predictions. Classical Jyotish describes tendencies and timings, not certainties, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. You will not find us saying an eventwill happen on a given date.
We do not give medical, legal or financial advice, and we do not interpret charts to diagnose illness. Where a question touches health, we will say plainly that it belongs with a doctor.
We show our working. Every recommendation names the rule and, where we have it, the verse behind it. If we cannot source a rule, we do not apply it.
Free and paid
The date list is free, for every city and every ceremony type, and it stays free. What we charge for is depth — the exact lagna window, how a date sits against your own birth chart, your running dasha and current transits, and the full written report.
